Wise started when the two founders realised they would be better off trading Estonian kroons for British pounds (and vice versa) between themselves rather than going through banks. That was back in 2011, and they've since grown Wise into one of Europe's most successful tech businesses, exchanging billions of currency every month.
Wise rapidly grew by solving a significant problem for customers, who lost too much money to banks when exchanging currency. Its attracted investment from some of the best investors in the world, from Andreesen Horowitz to Index Ventures and even Richard Branson.
While the market is crowded with new entrants (think Revolut and Monzo) and traditional banks trying to catch up, Wise is still staying one step ahead having recently opened a new hub in India and new payment features as well as reporting a rise in key metrics on higher volume and customer growth. This continued growth positions the company well for continued success in the future.

Money without borders is something I feel very aligned to, and Wise do a great job of connecting us all so we can understand our individual impact on our mission. Banks still charge extortionate fees for cross-border payments and we're helping democratise and driving transparency in International Banking for our customers.

I joined Wise in April 2022 and have a genuinely great experience. The Sunday dread is gone for the first time in my career. The Wise mission of Money Without Boarders is so important to people all around the world and Wise has built a platform for transparency in an industry that tries to hide. I love to hear the impact that Wise is making on a daily basis to people's lives.

The key aspect that I have learnt while working at Wise is that you are trusted to do your job. As long as you are doing your job, the rest is up to you. So I go to the gym during the day and am around every evening for family and friends!
