Who you are

- 10-15 years of experience in software engineering, with significant time in leadership roles
- Proven track record in leading engineering teams within the health tech or related industry
- Experience with AI tools and leading technical transformations is highly desirable
- Strong technical background with expertise in software architecture and development

- Proficient in project management and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

- Not afraid to get your hands dirty – you’ll be expected to run the app and push some code on day 1
What the job involves
- We are seeking a dynamic Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering team, drive technical excellence, and integrate AI coding tools to maximize efficiency across our health insurance and virtual care services
- You will report to our Chief Technology Officer
- Manage and mentor an 8-member engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
- Oversee performance management, including setting goals, conducting evaluations, and providing constructive feedback
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align engineering goals with company objectives
- Participate in strategic planning to drive technological advancements and business growth
- Provide technical guidance and ensure best practices are followed across all engineering projects
- Help lead architecture decisions and oversee the development of scalable, secure, and efficient software solutions
- Lead efforts to integrate AI coding tools into the development process to enhance productivity and code quality
- Identify and implement the most effective AI tools tailored to the team's needs
- Guide the engineering team through the adoption of new technologies, ensuring smooth transitions and addressing any challenges
- Ensure the team is well-trained in AI tools and methodologies to maximize their effectiveness
- Promote continuous learning and professional development within the engineering team
- Oversee project timelines, resource allocation, and ensure the delivery of high-quality products on schedule
- Implement effective project management practices to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency
- Work closely with other departments such as product, sales, and customer support to ensure alignment and effective communication
- Facilitate collaboration between engineering and other teams to drive cohesive project outcomes
- Attract and retain top engineering talent
- Scale the engineering team as needed to support company growth and project demands
- Encourage a culture of experimentation and innovation, leveraging AI to improve coding efficiency and product quality

Sana Benefits provides self-financed health insurance benefit plans which allow small businesses to pick and choose the services that they offer. The company aims to provide options that are more affordable to small businesses than the insurance giants of the US. For example, Sana touts partnerships with Meditech startups such as Beam for dental coverage and Calm for mental wellness, and has intelligently partnered with small medical businesses and insurance startups.
Following investment from some top names in insurtech, the company has pursued expansion into new states and is set to be an industry leader. The economic situation caused a round of layoffs early in 2023, but Sana Benefits has remained positive - stating it is able to "weather downturns" and that "re-orienting" now will ensure it can deliver on its mission well into the future.
