Our take

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investment has risen by over 50% in recent years - pulling around $500 billion per year - a trend fueled in part by collective pressure to invest in sustainable companies.

This upward curve has created a need for investment stakeholders to better track and analyze ESG data to improve due diligence. Novata is solving this very problem by offering tools to track the ESG performance of companies.

The “Public Benefit Corporation” has some pretty heavyweight names behind it too, The Ford Foundation, Omidyar Network, S&P Global, and Hamilton Lane. Indeed its first fundraising round of $21 million was one of the highest ever for a public benefit corporation.

The company furthered its strong financial backing with its 2023 Series B, which saw participation from a range of existing investors while drawing in several new investors, such as Microsoft. Novata is set to further its market position as it furthers its product capabilities and partnerships.

Former White House Fellow in the Clinton Administration and an assistant to the Secretary of Defense. Co-founder of Jackson Hole Economics, a non-profit research organization in economics, politics, the environment and finance. Served as CEO, CIO & CFO for a number of publicly listed financial services companies including GAM Investments ,UBS, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Prior to co-founding Novata, spent 15 years as CEO of trade data insights platform Panjiva (acquired by S&P Global in 2018). Former assistant CEO at growth investment firm the iFormation Group, created by technology VC Boston Consulting Group.
