Aptly named Oishii (delicious in Japanese) is a vertical fruit farming company that aims to replicate the most flavourful fruits found from extensive research in Japan. Vertical farming is a growing billion dollar industry and though the electricity bills for this form of farming may be high, the argument for the high flavour and nutrient dense food all year round is one that Oishii most definitely feeds into.
Originating as the first global entity to cultivate fruit at commercial scale in an indoor vertical farm, Oishii commenced its journey with strawberries, notably featured at the esteemed three-star Michelin restaurant, Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare. Since founding, the US based company has expanded to sell in high-end grocery stores like Whole Foods, where its renowned strawberries and sweet cherry tomatoes are now coveted.
The company recently required an impressively large round of funding for a company of its size, an ode to the promise Oishii shows for the future of premium fruit cultivation. With this funding the company is able to envision an automated future, incorporating robots and AI into every facet of farming - most definitely an exciting company to keep an eye on.

Oishii is working on innovating the vertical farming space which makes for a fast paced, ever-changing, and interesting atmosphere to work in. You are given the opportunity to lean in and lead in a variety of projects and while there's a wearing multiple hats aspect of many start ups, there's support from your team to GSD (it's one of our values).

Working in-office gives a lot of opportunities to connect with folks on the daily and the mission has attracted such cool, multi-talented folks. Asking anyone about their day, what a challenge their facing right now, or what they did this weekend will always bring fun interesting conversations. Not to mention the fun events that are put on either celebrating funding or collabs that the strawberries are a part of but also celebrating the culture that is here at Oishii.

It's an easy brand and mission to get behind as everyone can see the benefits of sustainability in a better, more nutritious berry. Engineers and R&D are doing incredible things with big-lift projects that being a leader in vertical farming and having people recognize the brand when I'm wearing Oishii swag is a point of pride.
