Our take

The French office catering company Foodles launched its first foray into the UK market in 2022 and provides an appealing catering compromise between logistically complex office canteens and sandwiches delivered to the desk. Instead, Foodles furnishes companies with smart fridges, which are restocked daily with cheap meals freshly prepared by local chefs.

The company is targeting SMEs, which brings it a number of strategic benefits. For one, businesses at this scale are under pressure to offer perks that compete with those of enterprise employers but on a smaller budget. Additionally, it allows Foodles to focus on offering quality of food over quantity, and implement practices like distributing reusable packaging and unused food to local organisations. Offering actionable solutions to the issue of food and container waste that’s attracting greater concern in Foodle’s new UK market is likely to play well with customers.

Another feather in Foodle’s cap is its commitment to employing all those who prepare and deliver food on permanent contracts. These kinds of ethical business practices are becoming more than nice-to-haves: companies are under growing pressure from both CSR commitments and an increasingly values-oriented workforce to seek out good business partners. So Foodles is striking a strong note in the UK.
