Our take

Sofar launched over 10 years ago to bring the magic back to live gigs. The company has rapidly grown and now puts on performances in over 300 cities across the world.

Sofar manages live events in unique, curated spaces such as galleries or even people's living rooms. It has also helped many artists get recognised. For example, more than 40 artists who played Sofar while unsigned, or relatively unknown, have now been nominated for a Grammy.

As they expand, the company's goal is to become the de facto way emerging artists play outside of traditional venues. It is worth mentioning that Sofar has been criticised in the past for paying artists low appearance fees, but this has not stopped plenty of musicians signing up to do gigs.
