Patchwork offers doctors a mobile app through which they can find and book shifts instantly, and hospitals a bespoke staffing platform to control their own hiring processes rather than using expensive locum agencies.
The financial woes of the NHS are rarely out of the news, while its staffing crisis continues to escalate amid growing demand for healthcare. The founders of Patchwork have an intimate knowledge of the problems faced by the NHS in these areas. The app itself was developed through a public-private partnership with Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust, which became the pilot site.
The company is seeking to integrate its service into standard staffing practices and in 2024, acquired L2P, a job planning software enterprise. This partnership will result in a suite of tools to streamline workforce processes and address the workforce needs of more than 100,000 clinicians across both the NHS and private hospitals. Patchwork then, is at the forefront of the movement to fix the NHS staffing crisis.

Patchwork is the first employer that has allowed me to have complete flexibility within my role. Not only has this made a huge difference to me and enabled me to have a good work-life balance but it has made a difference to my family too. Since joining Patchwork I have felt happier, less stressed, and more in control of juggling work alongside being a parent.

Patchwork is really family-friendly. It's easy to balance work and family commitments here because parents are understood and supported. There are no rules for Zoom meetings, quite often the kids and pets join in too, it really is a great place to work.

There's no hiding the struggles the NHS and its workers face every day, challenges such as staffing shortages and ever-increasing workloads - NHS workers work tirelessly each day whilst dealing with such pressure, therefore working for a company whose mission is to support our NHS means so much. Everyone is so passionate about the same mission and it's great to be part of that.
